Minister of Education Workhorse

Land Rover came out with the Series in 1950’s. Originally for the military, they subsequently came out with a Series 2 and later a Series 3 for the driver seeking a rugged vehicle that could tackle any terrain.

As such, when the Kenyan government needed to purchase vehicles for the Ministry of Education in the 70’s to deliver educational supplies to remote Kenyan villages, it knew what it had to get its hands on;  a Land Rover Series 3.

This vehicle, along with a couple of other Series, were the workhorse for 2 decades delivering supplies, such as books, building material, and school oversight across the Kenyan country side.  Roads to some of the villages were rocky, at best, but the Series 3 worked tirelessly to get to their destinations.  One of the beautiful things about these vehicles, beyond their external beauty, is the ability to fix things on the fly.  The Ministry drivers were able to fix most anything on their own.  This allowed it to get North to Samburu, Meru and beyond and south to the Masaii Mara.

After 2 decades of dedication to education, this particular vehicle was given to the Minister of Education for his use in Nairobi.  He used this until he passed away and the government sold to the public.  Safari Land Rovers was quick to pounce on the opportunity to purchase this and restore and give it another life.  It wasn’t without a huge headache to transfer ownership for personal use (as they required the deceased Ministers signature) but after 18 months, the documents were transferred and Safari Land Rovers was able to commence its restoration.
